Home to the only rain forests in the Continental United States, the west side of the Olympic Peninsula receives up to 15 feet of rain in a year! Unlike the Cascade Mountains, the Olympic Mountains have no volcanoes and are made of sedimentary rock that used to be on the ocean floor and basalt lava that used to be an island off the coast millions of years ago. The Olympic National Park is one of the few places in the world where you can hike from a rain forest to a glacier in less than 20 miles. To fully experience the Olympic Peninsula and National Park, you need to spend more than one day there..
